Mega Man & Bass for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) is a faithful 2003 port of the 1998 Japan-exclusive Super Famicom title, Rockman & Forte. It is often considered "Mega Man 8.5" because it reuses many assets and characters from Mega Man 8.
Core Gameplay & Features
- Dual Protagonists: You can choose to play as either Mega Man or his rival Bass.
- Mega Man: Features traditional gameplay with his charge shot and sliding ability.
- Bass: Offers a more mobile playstyle with a rapid-fire buster that can aim in seven directions, a dash, and a double-jump.
- Challenging Campaign: Face off against eight Robot Masters—including Dynamo Man, Cold Man, and Ground Man—to stop the new menace, Robot King, who has stolen Dr. Wily's data plans to build a robot army.
- Collectible CDs: A major side quest involves finding 100 hidden Data CDs scattered throughout stages. These unlock detailed bios and artwork for characters from across the classic series.
- Difficulty: The game is notorious for its high difficulty spike, which is further amplified on the GBA by "screen crunch"—a zoomed-in camera that can make anticipating hazards more difficult than in the original console version.
