R-Type III The Third Lightning for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) is a handheld port of the classic 1993 Super Nintendo (SNES) side-scrolling shooter. Players take the role of the last pilot on Earth, flying the advanced R-90 fighter against the invading Bydo Empire.
Key Gameplay Features
The GBA version preserves the core mechanics that defined the original title:
- Unique Force Pods: Players can choose from three distinct types of "Force" units—Round, Shadow, and Cyclone—each offering different weapon sets and strategic advantages.
- Hyper Wave Cannon: A powerful, rapid-fire variant of the standard wave cannon that can be used by entering "Hyper mode," though it carries a risk of overheating the ship.
- Challenging Levels: The game features six intense stages filled with biological terrors and massive screen-filling bosses.
