Summon Night 2: Swordcraft Story is a 2004 action role-playing game developed by Flgiht-Plan for the Game Boy Advance. A sequel to the original Swordcraft Story, it combines top-down exploration with real-time, side-scrolling combat similar to a fighting game.
Story & Setting
The game takes place in the village of Cliff in the world of Lyndbaum, a land connected to four magical dimensions.
- Protagonists: Players choose between Edgar (male) or Aera (female), orphans raised as Craftknights (warrior-smiths).
- Objective: After the ancient beast Goura is accidentally unsealed from local ruins, you must embark on a quest to find the legendary Daemon Edge sword to reseal it.
- Guardian Beasts: At the start, you choose one of four support partners (Ex-e-ld, Loki, Dinah, or Arno), each with unique abilities and personalities that influence gameplay and story events.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
- Weapon Crafting: Central to the game is the ability to forge over 200 weapons across five types: swords, axes, spears, knuckles, and drills. You use Shapestones and various materials found through exploration or combat to create, upgrade, and repair your arsenal.
- Action Combat: Combat occurs in a 2D side-view mode where players use magic, techniques, and their forged weapons to defeat enemies. You can even break an enemy's weapon to claim their crafting materials.
- Exploration Puzzles: Different weapon types have environmental uses, such as drills breaking walls or knuckles moving boulders, which are necessary for solving puzzles in the field.
- Playtime: The main story typically takes around 16–20 hours, while completing all content can take up to 59 hours.
